Ingredients
Scale
- Red Velvet Cake Mix + Ingredients It Asks For to Prepare the Mix (i.e. water, vegetable oil, eggs, etc.)
- White Frosting
- 1 Cup of Light Corn Syrup
- 2 Cups of Water
- 3 1/2 Cups of sugar
- Red Food Coloring
- Foil Paper
- 1 Cookie Sheet
- Non-Stick Cooking/Baking Spray
- Optional: Cupcake Liners, A Candy Thermometer
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees or whatever the instructions say on your cake mix.
- Grab your cookie sheet and line it with foil. After you do that, spray the foil with the non-stick cooking/baking spray.
- In a large sauce pan, combine the sugar, water, and corn syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil and then lower the heat a little and cook the candy until it reaches 300 degrees. (If you don’t have a candy thermometer, use the cold water method to test the temperature. I linked to it in the post above).
- Once the candy reaches 300 degrees, pour it on the cookie sheet you lined with foil Make sure to spread it evenly and then set it aside to harden.
- While you wait for your candy to harden, start on your cupcakes. Prepare them according to what the instructions it came with says.
- When your cupcakes are done and cooled, check to see if your candy has hardened. Take a hammer or whatever you can find (I used the handle of a spatula) and break your glass candy into “shards.”You are now ready to decorate your cupcakes.
- Get your white frosting and frost your cupcakes, add a few drops of your red food coloring, and then shove your glass candy into the top of them (you can also add a little food coloring to the glass).
- And that’s it! Enjoy your broken glass cupcakes!
